Press Release: Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner in Kyoto for the ASEM Foreign Ministers Meeting, 6-7 May 2005

Preview of ASEM, the Asia-Europe Meeting on 6-7 May 2005 in Kyoto. The meeting was to be attended by European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, and Foreign Ministers from the EU Member States as well as the Foreign Ministers of Japan, China, Korea and the ASEAN countries. Ministers were expected to discuss major international and regional political issues. In the margins of the meeting, the Commissioner also planned to take part in a number of bilateral and troika meetings with Asian countries. It was anticipated that, for the first time, the EU was to hold a ministerial troika meeting with Burma/Myanmar.
