On 1.3.01, the European Commission warmly welcomed the European Parliament's completion of its first reading of three important Directives dealing with the proposed new regulatory framework for electronic communications networks and services. Two of these Directives cover authorisation, access and interconnection; the third is the so-called framework Directive. Erkki Liikanen, the European Commissioner responsible for Enterprise and Information Society, said that they would be central to the success of Europe's knowledge based economy and its future competitiveness. |
