Press Release: Commission wants to better integrate environmental objectives into the Common Fisheries Policy

On 16.3.01, the European Commission adopted a strategy to make environmental protection a more central part of the Common Fisheries Policy. The objective of the strategy is to enable to make a real fisheries policy contribution towards reaching marine environmental objectives. Reciprocally, environmental policy should contribute to reaching the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy, in particular the sustainable use of natural resources under appropriate economic and social conditions for the sector.
