Press Release: Commission takes steps to counter banana import fraud

The European Commission adopted on 25 July 2000 detailed rules aimed at reinforcing controls in the area of import arrangements in the banana sector. This follows the discovery of cases of fraud related to the use of false import licences and a detailed investigation by OLAF in co-operation with DG Agriculture, national administrations and the private sector.
