Press Release: Commission sets out tailor-made nuclear safety strategy and streamlines assistance to candidate countries and Newly Independent States

The Commission adopted 6 September 2000 a new Communication on nuclear safety in the candidate countries and the Newly Independent States (NIS). This Communication from Commissioners Patten and Verheugen sets out recent achievements, presents the overall policy approach of the Commission and proposes new ways to streamline the delivery of assistance in this area. It also responds to requests made by the European Parliament and the Court of Auditors.
