Press Release: Commission proposes programme to increase presence of stimulate European digital content on the Internet

On 24.5.00, The European Commission presented a proposal for a new programme covering the period 2001-2005, which is in favour of the European digital content industries.The initiative links directly into the eEurope Initiative that aims at accelerating the uptake of digital technologies across Europe and at ensuring that all Europeans have the necessary skills to use them. The proposed programme builds on the conclusions of the recent Lisbon European Council that underlined the content industries' capacity to 'create added value by exploiting and networking European cultural diversity'.
