The European Commission has decided to open a formal State aid investigation procedure according to Article 88(2) of the EC Treaty in order to examine the compatibility of aid that the Italian authorities propose to grant to IVECO for a project carried out between 1994 and 1999. The case concerns research and development aid in the automotive sector and the proposed aid amounts to ITL 32.27 billion. The Commission has doubts as to the qualification of the project as precompetitive/industrial research and with regard to the required incentive effect. |
