Press Release: Commission infringement procedure against Italy for discriminatory treatment of foreign language assistants at Italian universities

The Commission has issued a reasoned opinion under Article 228 EC for non-compliance by Italy with the judgment of the European Court of Justice of 26 June 2001 in case C-212/99 concerning the allegedly discriminatory treatment in relation to the recognition of the acquired rights of the linguistic associates (former foreign-language assistants, the so called 'Lettori') at several Italian universities.
