The European Commission expressed its deep regret over the tragic events in Ceuta and Melilla which led to the untimely death of several persons during the last week of September 2005. It was identified as necessary to intensify co-operation on tackling illegal migration with Morocco and the main countries of origin in Africa, as part of a broader partnership on migration-related issues. The European Commission announced that it would make proposals of concrete initiatives for this purpose. |
