The European Commission on 11 January 2005 recommended to the Council to encourage Austria to aim at an early budgetary consolidation and to outline the measures envisaged to meet the government's target of a balanced budget by 2008. This followed the assessment of the updated stability programme of Austria for the period 2004-2008 in accordance with EU budgetary surveillance rules. |
