Press Release: Commission asks Court of Justice to impose daily penalty of EUR 316.500 on France for continued failure to enforce fisheries rules

The European Commission asked the European Court of Justice on 21 December 2001 to impose a daily penalty on France until it complies with its obligations regarding the prevention and sanction of landing and marketing of undersized fish. The rules on minimum landing sizes are designed to prevent the targeting and landing of immature fish, a practice which is extremely detrimental to the renewal of fish stocks.
