The European Commission decided on 12 March 2002 to approve a Finnish scheme providing a subsidy to passenger vessels. Under this scheme a 97% reduction of withholding tax will be granted on the marine work income of European seafarers working on board Finnish passenger vessels. The Commission approved this scheme in the context of its maritime policy which aims at preserving shipping activities and employment in the European Union and at improving safety. |
