Press Release: Commission approves Belgian aid for employment of seafarers in maritime transport and dredging

The Commission has decided to accept the extension of Belgian exemptions from social security contributions for maritime transport and dredging introduced at the start of 2000 and widened in 2003. With the new extension in place, Belgian ship owners should be in a position to cope better with competition from vessels flying flags of convenience.
