On 18.4.00 on behalf of Euratom, the European Commission approved a loan to the Bulgarian National Electrical Company (NEK) for the safety upgrade and modernisation of units 5 and 6 at Kozloduy nuclear power plant in Bulgaria. The project concerns the modernisation and upgrade to an internationally acceptable safety level of 2 third-generation nuclear power units of VVER 1000 design located close to the Romanian border which are already in operation. The preparatory phases of the project have already started. A European Consortium is participating in the project. There is also American involvement. |
