The European Commission has allocated €3 million to assist populations with acute humanitarian needs in Ethiopia. Up to 300,000 of the most vulnerable people throughout the country will benefit from the aid. They are affected by climatic hazards, malnutrition, epidemics, conflicts over natural resources and displacement. The Commission's humanitarian assistance covers food, water, health, livestock support, protection and assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Ethiopia further benefits from humanitarian aid the Commission is providing in response to the drought in the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA). Since 2005, the Commission's total response to the GHA drought has been €88 million (see IP/06/775). |
