Press Release: Commission again takes action against Italy and Ireland for failure to respond to Commission queries on environmental complaints

On 14.7.00 the European Commission decided to send a Reasoned Opinion (second warning letter) to both Italy and Ireland for failing to respond to Commission letters requesting environmental information. Article 10 of the EC Treaty requires Member States to actively co-operate with the Commission in dealing with complaints. The decision reflects the Commission's concern that, in the cases concerned, it is not receiving the usual degree of co-operation it expects from Member States.
