On 21.12.00, the Commission adopted new guidelines setting out the conditions under which Member States may grant firms aid to promote environmental protection. The guidelines, which were adopted following close cooperation with the Member States and all those concerned, are an effective tool for promoting measures to protect the environment while preventing any state aid that is not justified. They are also fully consistent with the draft European Parliament and Council Directive on the development of renewable energy sources. |
