Press Release: Commission adopts a proposal for a directive on training of professional drivers for the transport of goods or passengers by road

On 5.2.01, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a directive which will make training obligatory for professional drivers transporting goods or passengers by road. This proposal aims to improve the quality of the services offered by drivers, to make the driver's job more respected and more attractive, to increase road safety and to facilitate the free movement of workers. Moreover, new common rules need to be introduced that take account of technical developments and accumulated knowhow in this area.
