European mountain areas stand to benefit from territorial cohesion in 2007-2013, noted Regional Policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner in her speech during the 5th European Mountain Convention in Chaves, Portugal, 15 September 2006. The Commissioner added that the territorial dimension in the new cohesion policy requires that particular attention be paid to the impact of the programmes in terms of promoting balanced sustainable development in cities, rural areas and areas with natural handicaps. During her visit to Portugal the Commissioner will also have working meetings with Minister for Environment, Territorial Planning and Regional Development Francisco Nunes Correia and Secretary of State for Regional Development Rui Baleiras. The Commissioner will be visiting projects around Chaves in north Portugal. |
