Press Release: Bringing the common fisheries policy closer to stakeholders: dialogues with industry and others on CFP view and fisheries management

The European Commission has recently adopted two Reports on the series of regional meetings and workshops it held with the fishing industry and other interested parties. These initiatives reflect the Commission's determination to bring the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) closer to those with a stake in fisheries. They are part of a wider strategy that includes the 1999 reform of the Advisory Committee on Fisheries and proposals to strengthen dialogue with the sector. The regional meetings were part of the Community-wide consultation process to prepare the 2002 CFP review, while the workshops focused on improving the management of specific fisheries.
