The European Parliament's internal market and industry committees approved a resolution on 14 December 2015 regarding the European Commission's Digital Single Market strategy. Members of these committees defended the need for innovation-friendly policies to boost the sharing economy and online platforms and urged the European Commission to bring geo-blocking to an end. They added that developing e-government and e-skills could help the EU digital single market to generate €415 billion a year. This position was confirmed and reinforced by the parliament's plenary session on 19 January 2016. This draft resolution was expected to become the European Parliament's answer to the proposal on the DSM strategy unveiled on 6 May 2015. In the meantime, the European Commission released specific proposals on copyright, geo-blocking and e-commerce. |
