Press Release: Batteries: Commissioner Dimas welcomes conciliation agreement of the European Parliament and the Council

The European Commissioner for the Environment, Stavros Dimas, welcomed the conciliation agreement on the new Battery Directive reached on 3 May 2006. The new Directive aimed to ensure the collection and recycling of all batteries in the EU at the end of their useful life and to prevent their incineration and disposal.
