On 27 June 2006, the Council's Political and Security Committee (PSC) decided to appoint Rear
Admiral Hans-Jochen Witthauer (Germany) as EU Force Commander for the EU military operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (EUFOR - Althea). The decision was to take effect on 5 December 2006.
