For the first time in the history of the EU's Civil protection mechanism, all thirty countries participating in the mechanism offered assistance after a request was made by the United States following the devastation caused by the hurricane Katrina in September 2005. The thirty countries communicated their offers to the European Commission's Monitoring and Information Centre (MIC), who was co-ordinating the assistance in close cooperation with the UK Presidency. |
