As requested by the European Commission, on 6 July 2001 the Spanish authorities provided the EU's Rapid Alert System with further information concerning the presence of certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in some olive residue. The Spanish authorities had detected the presence of PAHs in some bottles of 'orujo de oliva' leading to some brands of olive oil being withdrawn from supermarket shelves. |
