Press Release: 2003 aid for French rendering industry

The European Commission on 5 July 2005 adopted a decision authorising state aid worth some €325 million granted to public rendering companies in 2003 for storing and destroying meat and bone meal and for transporting and destroying fallen stock and slaughterhouse waste. At the same time it launched a formal investigation into rendering tax exemptions conferred on a number of meat businesses in the same year which may also constitute a form of aid.
