Greenland's foreign minister unexpectedly resigned from government on 24 April 2017, on collision course with Prime Minister. The decision was taken after the Prime Minister's decision to move Mr Qujaukitsoq to the trade and industry portfolio. The cabinet reshuffle left him the perception of being demoted. The former minister also announced his intention to challenge the Prime Minister at a party leadership contest being held later in summer. The two figures also held different views on the path to independence from Denmark, long sought by Greenland. EUObserver's article also advises the European Union on the approach to follow regarding the territory's political leadership. |
