Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta expressed his frustration on 9 November stating that the country had fought hard to discover shale gas that apparently does not exist.

US energy company Chevron reacted to the statement by responding that it had yet to finalise the assessment of Romania's shale gas potential. Eventually, it decided to give up the plans to explore shale gas in the country.
