Article reports that trade union leaders at KGHM, Poland’s largest copper producer, were preparing on the 12 August 2009 to hold strike talks after the government announced plans to sell off state-controlled assets as a means to reduce Poland's budget deficit.

The Polish government has decided on the privatization of portions of the copper giant KGHM, oil refiner Lotos, and the utilities companies Tauron and PGE.
