A coalition between the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) and the Polish Peasants' party (PSL) collapsed at the beginning of March 2003 leaving the Polish Prime Minister, Leszek Miller, with a lot of unfinished business. Mr Miller has staked his reputation and the future of his party on steering Poland successfully into the European Union in May 2004.
