Czech and Polish government officials discuss the US missile defence project in Prague, 10 January 2008. The US wants to install interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar base in the Czech Republic, to protect against possible attack by what it calls rogue states, such as Iran and North Korea. The Czech and Polish governments said that they were not going to rush into an agreement with the United States over its plans to station parts of its missile defense shield in their countries.

In February 2008 it was reported that Poland and the US had reached an agreement in principle to install a controversial American missile defence system on Polish soil.
