MEPs approved Dutch Socialist Niels Sindal's report on the encouragement of short-sea shipping, which supports the Commission's action plan to improve the quality of vessels, port facilities and cargo-handling methods. However, MEPs called for extra measures to be added to the action programme, including full liberalisation of intra-EU sea transport, minimising red tape and making port charges more transparent.
