Pharmaceutical industry competitiveness and public health

In recent years the competitiveness of the European pharmaceutical industry has begun to fall behind its American counterparts while public health has rapidly moved up the agenda of both Member States and the Commission. To consider ways of improving competitiveness in line with social and public health objectives, the European Commission created the G10 Medicines Group. After a year's work, it presented its recommendations to Romano Prodi, President of the European Commission on 7 May 2002.
