EUObserver reported that eight EU Member States, Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK, wrote to the European Commission in October 2012 proposing that the mechanisms for EU officials' pensions should be reformed to reduce the increasing costs.
