EurActiv reported in January 2016 that negotiations were still ongoing regarding the European Parliament's participation in the evaluation of those member states under an economic adjustment programme.

The involvement of the European Parliament had been initially proposed on 19 August 2015, by Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. His request was discussed in the Conference of Presidents of political groups in the EP at the beginning of September.
