The European Parliament's plenary session endorsed on 14 December 2016 the extension of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) with Uzbekistan to include bilateral trade in textiles.

MEPs acknowledged the country's efforts to eradicate child labour, but they also urged it to take further steps to end all other forms of forced labour. This was also highlighted in a separate non-legislative resolution.

The Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with Uzbekistan was signed in 1999. In December 2011, Parliament adopted an interim report postponing its decision on consent to its extension pending an improvement in the human rights situation in Uzbekistan.
