Pakistani President hopes for more trade with the EU

In a speech to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament on 12 September 2006, Pakistan’s president Pervez Musharraf told MEPs that they could help democratisation and development in his country by supporting greater access for it to the EU market. Mr Musharraf also warned that the Taliban have become more dangerous than Al-Qaida. However, he held out good hope of improving relations with neighbouring India.
In addition, on the 13 September 2006 Javier Solana, European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy(CFSP), met the President of Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Pervez Musharraf, to discuss EU-Pakistan relations as well as developments in Pakistan and in the region.
