Outgoing Freedom Party leader Jörg Haider has said Austria should consider leaving the Union because of the way it has been treated by other member states

"For the first time, the EU is provoking a member to the extent that it must consider leaving the EU," he said in an interview. Haider also repeated threats made by the far-right party's finance minister to delay making payments to the Union. The European Commission warned this week that it would fine Vienna if it was late in making contributions to the EU budget.
