Other information: Tax package. The Commission has issued a progress report on work in the field of direct taxation one year after EU Member States agreed on co-ordinated European action to tackle harmful tax competition. The Code of Conduct Group (business taxation) set up by the Council has assessed the potentially harmful measures connected with intra-group services, financial services and offshore companies. The Council has made good progress with the negotiations on the proposed Directives on taxation of savings and on interest and royalty payments between companies and has agreed to tackle the external dimension. The overall aim of the tax package is to reduce distortions in the Single Market and making tax structures more employment friendly. |
