The Council of Ministers has adopted the common position on the Directive combating late payments in commercial transactions. The proposals was introduced by the Commission in 1998 and introduces a statutory right to interest, which should be sufficiently high to compensate for the loss incurred. The European Parliament will consider the text in second reading in the Autumn and the final adoption of the Directive could take place in the Spring of 2000.
