Introductory website: Falling frontiers between the European Union Member States are bringing many benefits, but they are also making it easier for criminal organisations to be active across Europe. Simultaneously, criminals have been taking advantage of fast-moving technological advances such as the Internet. Governments acting individually cannot address the newly emerging problems adequately. A strategy has been defined at European Union level - the 1997 action plan to combat organised crime. As a result, many concrete steps have already taken by the EU Council of Ministers to fight against organised transnational crime. |
