The Scientific Panel on food additives, flavourings, processing aids and materials in contact with food (AFC) of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), adopted an opinion, in December 2005, on the possible health risks related to 2-Isopropylthioxanthone (ITX). ITX is a substance used in inks applied to packaging materials, including foods packed in cartons. Following a request of the European Commission, EFSA also provided scientific advice in the same opinion on another substance also used in inks, 2-ethylhexyl-4-dimethylaminobenzoate (EHDAB). |
