The United Kingdom Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs issued an Open Consultation White Paper Sustainable Fisheries for Future Generation on the 4 July 2018. DEFRA claimed that this set out a blueprint for sustainable and profitable fishing industry in the United Kingdom. Outside the EU, the UK would be an independent coastal state and would regain control of UK waters and natural resources, as well as the flexibility to negotiate with other countries and ensure stocks were fished sustainably. A new Fisheries Bill would be introduced in the current parliamentary session (2017-2019) |
