Summary:

The proliferation of disinformation - including false news posing as factual stories - became increasingly visible ever since the conflict in Ukraine. While existing research indicates that a majority of people have difficulties determining when news is not factual, the EU has progressively stepped up its efforts to tackle 'fake news' online.
