Article reports that the effort by the Oneworld airline alliance to catch up with rivals in the Star and SkyTeam groups took a step forward on the 14 July 2010 after the European Commission cleared American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia to co-operate more closely on transatlantic routes.

The airlines won approval to jointly manage prices, schedules and capacity on flights between the US and Europe in a move analysts say should boost revenues and generate cost savings.

The Commission also waved through a proposed merger by BA and Iberia that would create Europe’s third-largest airline group after Lufthansa and Air France-KLM.
