Date: 04/05/06 Europe will get a new website to check facts on health issues from breast cancer to x-rays later this month. An EU "health portal" to be launched by the European Commission next Wednesday (10 May) will try to offer a one-stop shop to Europeans worried about the latest health scares and lifestyle advice. The website will focus on 47 general topics under six broad categories such as "My lifestyle" or "Health in the EU", rather than specific diseases. National websites such as the UK NHS direct already offer health information to citizens, but the health portal will be the first pan-European version. The EU site will not offer help with diagnoses or even an official position on diseases. Instead it will point readers to all available information on health topics, whether it is from scientists, the Commission or non-governmental organisations.
