Oettinger hails ‘historic day’ as first EU-Moldova pipeline opens

European Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger, Prime-Minister of Romania Victor Ponta and the Prime-Minister of the Republic of Moldova Iurie Leancă, inaugurated the launch of the works for the realisation of the gas interconnector between Ungheni (West of Moldova) and Iaşi (East of Romania) on the 27 August 2013.

By this step Moldova was taking its first steps towards diversifying its energy supplies from exclusive dependence on Russia.
