The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) started judging a human rights appeal involving the detention of Norwegian mass shooter Anders Breivik on 10 January 2017. A previous judgement of Oslo District Court in April 2016 had sentenced that Mr Breivik's human rights had been violated in detention. After the judgement was delivered, an appeal was launched by Norway's Ministry of Justice and Public Security. There were reports that his prison conditions had in the meantime already been relaxed. Mr Breivik was given a 21 year sentence for killing 77 people in a bombing and shooting massacre in July 2012 in Oslo and Utøya island. |
