Norway and the EU agreed yesterday to temporarily ban cod fishing in the North Sea

The two-and-a-half-month ban is aimed at allowing the maximum survival of spawning stock after scientists warned that it was in severe danger of collapse. The ban should come into force in mid-February and last until the end of April.
