Report of a FT interview with Pål Haugerud, head of asset management in Norway’s Ministry of Finance, August 2012. He was discussing the investing strategy of the Norges Bank Investment Management, Norway's sovereign wealth fund.

He suggested that the fund was planning to take on more risk as it sought to exploit its role as a strategic investor, in a move that could mark a new trend for conservative publicly-owned investment funds.

The fund and the Norwegian government had been reviewing its strategy since coming under heavy criticism domestically for posting big losses in 2008 during the financial crisis.
